Overview
Malaysia is committed to fighting climate change and reducing the environmental impact of its energy sources. To that end, Malaysia has set a goal of achieving carbon net zero by 2050. To reach this goal, the country is focusing on green energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower, as well as energy efficiency measures.
In recent years, Malaysia has ramped up its renewable energy efforts. This is reflected in its renewable energy targets, which are to generate 20% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2025, and 40% by 2035. The country has invested heavily in building solar farms and wind turbines. It has also implemented energy efficiency standards for buildings, appliances, and transportation. Additionally, it has taken steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector.
By investing in green energy sources, energy efficiency measures, and carbon capture and storage technology, the country is making progress towards its goal of carbon net zero by 2050. Malaysia is also encouraging businesses and individuals to switch to green energy and has set up a number of initiatives and incentives to promote renewable energy usage.
The state of Sarawak is leading the way in green energy production, with the goal of producing 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The state is investing in solar, biomass, and hydro power, as well as energy storage solutions. It has also recently announced plans to build a green hydrogen plant, which will produce hydrogen from renewable sources. Additionally, Sarawak has set a target of reducing emissions by 45 percent by 2030.
